Janu Basti

janu Basti

Janu basti refers to treatment of Janu sandhi. The term is derived from sanskrit where Janu ( जानू ) refers to knee joint 7 basti ( बस्ति ) refers to hold or to retain. In this procedure warm medicated oil or herbal decoction is made to retain at the knee joints for specific period of time. After the procedure the oil or decoction is removed and gentle massage is done on the area. The treatment may be done on one or both the knees based on the medical condition.

Knee joints are  referred in ayurveda as sandhi Marma, संधि मर्म, (joint type of vital areas) measuring about three fingers (3 अंगुली प्रमाण).So the janu vasti is specialized knee therapy or massage which rejuvenate the janu marma.

Pacifies aggravated Vata dosha in the knee region
Restores the lubricating fluid in the joint and maintain integrity of the structures involved in the joint.
Reduces stiffness and pain in Knee joint
Protects knee joints from age related changes
Improves blood circulation; thus strengthens and nourishes the knee joints
Improves the mobility of the knee joints (knee flexion and knee extension)
