In simple language basti means enema. Basti treatment is one among the panchkarmas & is given due importance because of its property to cleanse toxins which are accumulated by all the three doshas i.e. Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Unlike soap water enemas of modern science, ayurvedic enemas (bastis) are not ready to use and are made instantly as & when required, by using various medicinal herbs made to decoction & oils or ghee. Basti is used in various conditions created by Vata disorder & is said to balance vata. Bastis are also used to treat various sexual disorders & for rejuvenation purposes, apart from detoxification.
Duration : Basti treatment is usually given for 8- 30 days based on the disease & condition of the patient.
